Journal By Sil

March 25, 2000

Spring is coming, for sure. I hung out clothes on the line for the first time this year! Last night, while driving home, I saw a little Green on south-facing slopes...grass starting to sprout. And, tonight, the first moth was batting it's wings against the front-door light.

I'm a little gimpy today. I sat down hard on some ice on the banking out back of the shop. Kate and one of her buddies had located a dead animal (road-kill) and I was trying to dispose of it before it got so gamey that she rolled in it. It will have to wait, now. But, at least it's in the coldest part of the property. Things don't thaw out down back of the shop until mid to late April.

The most aggravating part of it, at the time, was that my whole backside, including my head got plastered with burdock burrs. I slid after I fell and cleaned up a whole swath of fallen burrs. The back of my pants and shirt was a sight! Good thing I couldn't see the back of my head. Soon's I got back in the house, I soaked my head in a basin of warm water and 6-8 burrs combed out really easily. Got two big handfuls of the burrs off my clothing.

Should'a known better than to go out in treadless boots, but Kate and the other dog were standing in the road, debating what to do with the carcass, and a pickup truck driver reacted badly to such behaviour. T'was the horn-blowing that caused me to run outside in me shirtsleeves.

My sincere apologies for this long gap in the journal. This month has been a rough one at work. I've come home exhausted every night, had no ambition to record the goings-on there. It's been one crisis after another and I've had all I could do to clean up the messes (some of which I created through inexperience) and get the regular work done, too.
