The Korean Blog List

2006-12-08 - 11:53 p.m.

I'll be adding to this page over the next few days. I'm going to transfer all the "paper journal" entries which survived the events of this autumn. Long story short, the paper record of my trip to Maine was stolen. I'll do my best to fill in the gaps.

Perhaps the most interesting "news-worthy" event was the mustering of the ready reservists in response to the North Korean nuke. Friday, October 13th, our neighbourhood office was aswarm with young fellows packing rifles. They all had broad yellow ribbons hanging from their right shoulders. I think it may have been a way to differentiate South Korean soldiers from North. Most South Koreans believe that the North has built tunnels to sneak troops southward to emerge and cause confusion. The yellow ribbons were the equivalent of the Welsh leeks, a way to tell friend from foe.
