The Korean Blog List

2003-01-18 - 4:03 a.m.

Walking home from the PC shop after posting the last entry, a very elderly man carrying an overnight bag spoke to me. I didn't catch what he said at first, so I apologized and asked him to say it again. He smiled, held out his palm and said, "Would you help me? I am a mendicant." I had to smile at the turn of phrase and said, "Sure." He was neatly dressed in what looked like a priest's "civvies," but had the weather-worn face of an outdoorsman. He also looked like a wise and good-humoured person. I wish I could have spent some time talking with him.

[I wonder where he learned that word. My only experience with it is in reference to medieval Catholic monks.]

Happy Trails! Thanks for reading,
